Over six decades of experience
Meridell Achievement Center is a residential treatment facility located in Liberty Hill, Texas, providing specialized care for children and adolescents since 1961. Having served youth with a wide-range of behavioral and emotional difficulties for over 60 years in the greater Austin area, we offer gender affirming traditional behavioral and neurobehavioral programs for youths aged 10 to 17.
In 1961, Liberty Hill was a rural community on the outskirts of Austin. Today, highways make Liberty Hill a northwest suburb of Austin with an easy commute to the city center and international airport.
We recognize that purposeful misbehavior is very different than irritable behavior. The adolescent who reaches repeatedly for the hot stove tests limits and is in control. We call this behavioral. The youth who tantrums or “melts down” is out of control. We call this neurobehavioral.
For our youths, ages 10 to 17, we find very different underlying causes for these types of behaviors. Therefore, the milleus or clinical environments of our behavioral and neurobehavioral programs are very different.
Adolescent psychiatrists direct treatment teams comprised of master-level counselors, nurses, recreational therapists, trained direct-care staff, and teachers. These teams are supported by a neuro-psychologist, psychologist and registered dietitian and receive consultation from a pediatric neurologist.
Affirmative Care
In line with best practice, research, and corporate policy recommendations, Meridell Achievement Center Inc. is an affirming, inclusive treatment facility that supports, respects and honors an individual’s right to determine their own gender identity and sexual orientation.
We are committed to upholding this position in all interactions with our patients and providing a safe and therapeutic environment for individuals to question, explore and assert their beliefs and orientation.
